My Dear Mom

Mom had a traumatic experience during the war.
As a small kid she had to ask her neighbors who were well to do farmers in southern Germany for food handouts. Those neighbors, as kind hearted as they were, hesitated just a second before handing their left-overs to my mom with the comment : "Well, before we give it to the pigs we might as well give it to you."

Ever since my mom had this thing about left-overs.
I grew up eating nothing but left-overs.
The original meal was never found.
And over the years my mom developed a digestive system of a vulture.

Two months ago I wanted to start segregating our garbage and create a compost bin.
So far it is still empty since I can't get any left-overs past my mom.

The worst part is when we eat out.
She wouldn't order anything, since of course no restaurant sells any left-overs.
Just when you don't look she will eat half of your food because it looked like left-overs.

Just kidd'n Mutti, we love you.
But serioulsy I really would like to start a compost bin at one point.
